The Government’s New 60-Day Dispensing Policy | Aged Care Australia | GIHC

The Government plans to release a new 60-day Prescriptions Policy on September 1 of this year. The 60-day dispensing policy’s aim is for Australians to save hundreds of dollars per year by opting for 60-day prescriptions instead of weekly or fortnightly as it will be much cheaper to purchase.

The minister for health and aged care Mark Butler states that “People with a Medicare card buying just one of these medicines will save up to $180 every year. Concession card holders will save $43.80 a year for each eligible medicine.”

However National President of the Pharmacy Guild of Australia Trent Twomey believes there could be some issues with the new policy. Mr Twomey believes that there is simply not enough medicine available to support this policy.
