The government is investing $50 million into research primary care innovation. This research will investigate the current primacy care model make improvements which will benefit everyone, especially priority groups, which includes senior Australians, and people in regional and remote areas of Australia, among others.
Primacy care is the first point of contact when someone has concerns about their health, such as GPs, nurse, or other allied health professionals.
The government is also investing $2.2 billion in a new funding program to support Medicare, which will make primary care more accessible and affordable, with a focus on relieving pressure on the hospitals and emergency care across Australia by expanding the primacy care workforce and offering GPs and others in primary care more incentives to remain open for longer.
