The Australian government is introducing the Integrated Assessment Tool (IAT) and a Single Assessment System to improve aged care assessments. These reforms aim to simplify the process for older Australians by:
• Reducing the need to repeat assessments: A single pathway will be used, minimising the need to tell their story multiple times.
• Improving access: Assessments will be available in regional, rural, and remote areas, with reduced wait times.
• Tailoring assessments: The IAT will gather comprehensive information on an individual’s needs, including activities of daily living, cognition, and psychosocial needs.
