Support at Home: What You Need to Know About Participant Contributions (1 November 2025)

From November 1, 2025, older Australians receiving aged care support under the new Support at Home program will pay contributions based on their financial situation — but with fair protections in place.

✨ Lifetime Cap:
You’ll never pay more than $130,000 (indexed) across your lifetime for aged care services.

✨ ‘No Worse Off’ Principle:
If you were already on a Home Care Package on or before 12 Sept 2024, you’ll pay the same or less under Support at Home — even if your needs change later.

✨ How Much Will You Pay?
Under Support at Home, what you pay depends on your financial status. Clinical care is free for everyone. For independence support, Full Pensioners pay 5%, Part Pensioners pay 5%–50%, and Self-Funded Retirees pay 50%. For everyday living, Full Pensioners pay 17.5%, Part Pensioners 17.5%–80%, and Self-Funded Retirees 80%.

✨Example provided by MAC:
Bill is a retired part Age Pensioner. He owns his home and has modest savings of $10,000, plus some superannuation income.
🔹Total income: $45,500/year
🔹Assessed for Support at Home services after 1 Nov 2025
Here’s how much Bill pays under the new contribution model:
🔹 Bill contributes: 14% of his care costs
🔹 Government covers: 86%
