How to Apply for an Aged Care Assessment
To access government-subsidized aged care services for the first time, you’ll need an assessment. You can apply quickly online in just 15–20 minutes or by calling 1800 200 422 to speak with My Aged Care staff.
Online Application Overview
- Eligibility: Covers all care types, including in-home care (HCP), respite, and residential aged care (RAC).
- Flexible Access: Apply for yourself or on behalf of a loved one, and set up a support person if needed.
- Requirements: Have your Medicare card ready.
Note: If you’re already registered with My Aged Care, call instead of applying online.
Application Steps
- Confirm Eligibility (5 minutes)
Answer questions about your situation to check if you qualify for services. - Provide Details (10 minutes)
Share personal information, including Medicare details. If applying for someone else, include both sets of information. - Arrange the Assessment (5 minutes)
Specify who the assessment team should contact to confirm needs and schedule an assessment.
After Submission
- What Happens Next? An assessment team will contact you within 2–6 weeks to finalize your needs and schedule an assessment.
- Track Your Progress: Log in to your My Aged Care account or call 1800 200 422.
- Welcome Pack: You’ll receive helpful information and guidance by mail after applying.
