There are some major changes to the home care packages program operational manual which have come into effect in January and have changed the way many home care package holders use their funding. There are now a lot of exclusions for products and services that can be claimed using home care package funding.
Only products and services that are related to the care recipientβs ageing-related care needs apply can be purchased with a home care package.
For example, β’ HCP funds can be used for allied health services but must only be used when the service is: * required due to care recipientβs age-related functional decline or to assess the need for aids and equipment * delivered by an accredited provider, and * not concurrently being funded by another government program.
β’ Plumbing must only be provided to improve safety and accessibility and promote independence, for example removing shower hobs.
β’ Seniors that possess a home care package will no longer be able to get subsidised medication.
β’ Home care package holders can no longer claim for climate control expenses using their home care package.
β’ Objects like fridges, microwaves, kettles and other appliances can no longer able to be claimed using home care package funding unless they are specifically designed to tackle the challenges of arthritis, such as a kettle that doesnβt require you to lift or balance it while you pour water.

Keeping track of which medication to take at specific times can be difficult to manage, regardless of age or ability, and taking incorrect amounts can have serious consequences. As we age, we will need to take more medications which can increase the risk of contradictions, undesirable effects, and dosage errors. So, to make sure medicine intake is being managed properly, it is important to track it by having a list of medications with dosages for each one. Then it is important to organise medications into time and day which can be done with the help of medication dispensers/organisers.
It is also very important that medicine intake is reviewed on a yearly basis to make sure that they are suitable. It is possible that things can change, for example: * side effects from the medicine can develop. * health conditions can become more serious. * additional medicines may be required. * treatment guidelines for conditions can change. * some medication may no longer be needed.
Gratitude In-home Care provides medication assistance services help take the stress and worry out taking medications by tracking exactly which medication needs to be taken and when.
